作为一款拥有20年历史的游戏系列，《生化危机》的背后埋藏着许多有趣的历史。比如，这款恐怖游戏最早的对应平台并不是PlayStation，而是任天堂SNES。

借《洛克人11》公布之际，外媒Gameinformer最近与制作人小田光司进行了一场访谈，后者在1991年被卡普空雇佣，负责开发《超魔界村R》与《米老鼠：魔法冒险》等作品。

“说实在的，我感觉进入游戏行业时正是它最好的年代，”小田光司说，“那时的游戏通常只需要半年，最多不超过一年即可完成，因此我有机会参与了大量不同的开发项目。有一个很多人不知道的秘密是，《生化危机》在转向PlayStation平台开发前，它的对应平台是SNES。”

计划之初，《生化危机》曾作为NES平台恐怖作品《Sweet Home》被立项，后经过一系列转变最终成为了一款原创恐怖生存游戏。1994年底PlayStation发售后，该平台迅速获得了成功，而这也让卡普空管理层最终决定将这款恐怖新作转移至索尼的新平台。

“《生化危机》名字被确定之前，它的项目代号就是个简单的‘恐怖游戏’（horror game），”小田光司表示，“在SNES平台，我们只能在存储空间受限的情况下开发，因此我们并不能塞一部电影视频进去。如果我们最终在SNES平台完成它的话，我敢肯定它一定会是另一副模样。举例来说，它最初被设定的场景和现实并没有什么关系，看起来更像是地狱。”
